RNSG 1830 Mental Health Nursing
This course focuses on providing care to clients with complex mental health disorders and chronic illness in a variety of outpatient and specialty settings. This course builds upon the previous concepts and principles of case management, therapeutic treatment, collaboration, and referral among behavioral health and community health agencies. Application of the nursing process for care of behavioral health and chronic long-term illnesses is emphasized while providing clinical opportunities at in-patient and outpatient behavioral health, long-term care, rehabilitation, wound care, home health, and other outpatient settings. The lab for this course is concentrated on honing previously learned nursing skills by providing sim lab scenarios. Pharmacological principles are taught as they relate to the client. A project is required for this course that concentrates on providing mental health disorder pathology, therapeutic treatment, and referrals to the older client community.
