AUMF 1495 Manufacturing Systems

This course provides comprehensive instruction in modern manufacturing systems and Industry 4.0 technologies, focusing on the integration of automation, data, and digital systems within industrial environments. Students will explore how programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial networks, robotics, sensors, and data systems work together to
create intelligent, connected manufacturing processes.

Instruction emphasizes the transition from traditional automation to smart manufacturing systems, including real-time data collection, system monitoring, and digital communication between machines and enterprise systems. Students will analyze system architecture, including the interaction between PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and cloud-based
technologies, to understand how data is used to improve efficiency, quality, and decision-making.

Topics include industrial networking, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), smart sensors, data acquisition, predictive maintenance, cybersecurity, and system integration. Students will also explore digital transformation concepts such as system interoperability, remote monitoring, and automated decision-making.

Hands-on activities and applied projects will require students to integrate automation components, collect and analyze
system data, and evaluate system performance. By the end of the course, students will be able to analyze, implement,
and support smart manufacturing systems aligned with modern industry practices
